Master Fic Post

It's just come to my attention that the links to shetiger.com are broken. I'm going to go through and fix all the individual links in this post, but until then, all of my fic can be found on my AO3 account. Thank you. :)

Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hello! First of all, I apologize if my sign-up comes across a little...harried. I had no intention of doing Yuletide this year, until the very last minute when the old magic grabbed me and sucked me back in. Thank you for writing me a story! I'm really excited that we matched on one of these fandoms. :D

I've made shippy requests for all of my fandoms, but if you're a gen writer, please don't be afraid that I'll be unhappy with a gen story! The thing that I want the most is a story about the characters that I love. If you do want to write relationship fic, then sex is absolutely welcome but totally not required.

I have fairly wide reading interests--I like gen, het, slash, femslash, multiples, UST, established-relationship, first time, romance, episode-like stories, mysteries, action, introspection, moment-in-time fics, PWPs, outside POVs, etc. I'm *not* big on crack, and I don't generally care for mundane AUs (coffeeshop AUs, high school AUs, etc.)

Rarepair letter

Dear Rare Pair Author:

Hello! Thank you for writing for me! A few quick things: I tend to babble about the things that I love. I'm writing this letter in case you're a writer that likes more information, but if you want to go your own way, feel free to skip all this. Additionally, I've given info about what I like, sex-wise, in stories, but never feel that I'm angling for sex in the story over not having sex in the story. It's just there for additional information.

Now, onto the fandom specifics. :)

Looking back over this list, I realize the one thing these all have in common is that I really like it when people who aren't supposed to fall for each other, for one reason or another, actually do. The reasons are often very valid: they work together (almost all the law enforcement pairings), there's some age issues (Chris/Lydia being the extreme one, but also Walt/Vic, Derek/Chris and Derek/Allison), history (Chris/Derek and Derek/Allison). Or there are trust issues (Hotch/Blackwolf, Hotch/Morgan) or societal pressures (the poly combos).

I want to see them being brave enough to say 'fuck it' to all of that and go for it instead.

Today's starting count

AB/CM #1: 22317

I didn't get any fandom stockings stuffed, because I just absolutely locked up with anxiety, like I do every time I try to do fandom_stocking. I think I'm going to try to work on filling some slowly now that the deadline has passed, if I can find people's AO3 names. (Or I suppose I can reply to comments they've made; they should get notifications that way, right?)

I need to switch over to working on my Romancing McShep fic soon, though. Yes, it's all plotted out, Michelle - except for all the bits where you've got "John and Rodney do stuff here." That's still a hell of a lot of words to fill in, you know.

But still, I have been writing, so that's good. Need to do some artin' today, too. :D
Eddie flag

Yep. Two posts in one day. (Write every day, January edition.)

Last year was not a particularly productive year for me, writing-wise. A lot of that was because I decided fairly early on to concentrate on art, which is a decision I don't regret at all. I need to do even more with my art this year, but I also want to continue on with the writing momentum that came from Yuletide.

Luckily enough, ladycat777 and trobadora are doing an informal "write every day in January"...thing...that I've decided to tag along on. ('Thing.' I can already tell there are going to be some glorious pieces of prose coming out of this writing...thing.)

Anyway!

Another big reason that I didn't produce much last year is because I had very little focus. I *did* write. I just didn't finish anything until the end-of-year exchanges because I was constantly zipping between projects. So. I need to prioritize.

  1. Fandom stocking ficlets. I've already done some non-fannish fills, but I really need to do at least some ficlets before they open in a few days. Meep!

  2. romancingmcshep fic. The one I was supposed to post last year, meep! This is all plotted out, but it has a lot of words left to put in.

  3. The Criminal Minds/Anita Blake fusion series. I finished the rough draft of the first one, and I worked out all of the changes I need to make, but I need to actually finish editing it. I have most of a draft of the second story. And, yeah. Lots more work to do.

  4. Everything else. Lots of random projects that I'd really like to finish up, even though there's not much of an audience for any of them. Including:

    • Criminal Minds - Hotch/Madame Bouvier

    • Criminal Minds - Rossi/Prentiss in London

    • Longmire - Walt/Vic making out

    • Intelligence - Jameson/Riley/Gabriel sexin' thing

    • Criminal Minds - Hotch/Blackwolf

    • Teen Wolf - Chris/Lydia

    • Teen Wolf - Allison/Stiles/Lydia

And no, I'm not trying to get that all done in January, lol. But if you catch me whining about one of those bottom stories, you can kick me in the ass for skipping ahead on the list. :D

*cracks knuckles* Okay, here we go!

Yuletide reveals

So. Yuletide. I actually wrote things!

I was assigned to skieswideopen this year, and we matched on Intelligence, which made me absolutely gleeful. Guys, I loved this show so much. Mostly because Meghan Ory and Josh Holloway had the most amazing chemistry ever, but also because the other characters were great and it was a lot of tropey fun, too. I basically wanted to write all the fic for this request, but I held myself back to two. ;)

Mom Knows Best. Intelligence, Gabriel Vaughn/Riley Neal, Mature. After dinner.

AKA the one where I get them to make out. (Ugh. CBS. Why did you not let me see them make out? I neeeeeeed it.) I really loved writing this. Mary Vaughn (Gabriel's mother) was just a riot inside my head, and I hope she came across on the page. Also, did I mention the making out? Because mmmm, pretty.

I Carved a Block of Wood. Intelligence, Gabriel Vaughn and Shen Cassidy. Gabriel shows up at Shen's house for a talk.

This one is set right before the start of the series. I wanted to explore Gabriel and Shen's father - son relationship just a bit more, and this popped out a couple days before Christmas. It surprised me a little, because I hadn't spent that much time thinking about these two beforehand. I guess you could say this was a story that deepened my own understanding of the characters. :)

And then I wrote treats! Not nearly as many as I wanted to, but I'm actually very pleased with what I did get done. I actually wanted to fill all the Longmire requests, because I love them so. Once I sat down to write, though, I realized I was a bit intimidated by the setting, the fact that I didn't have time to canon review, Craig Johnson's books, and the other writers in the fandom. /o\ I did manage one story, though.

Closing Time. Longmire, Cady Longmire/Henry Standing Bear. After he gets back to the Red Pony, Cady and Henry finally have a chance to talk about some things.

This is set immediately after the Season 3 finale. I hadn't really considered Cady/Henry as a pairing before I started reading some of the request letters, but you know I have a pull towards cross-gen. This is barely a snippet, written last minute for subjunctive, who wanted something that focused a bit on the 'omgthisisdirtybadwrong' feelings. I don't think that actually came through as much as I intended it to, though, and it turned out kind of shmoopy.

A Recipe for a Successful Relationship (In Five Not-So-Easy Steps). The Rundown, Beck/Travis. (Warning for references to past child abuse and the recovery process.) Life is good for Beck and Travis - except when Travis insists on pushing all of Beck's buttons. Almost like he *wants* Beck to hit him. And that's just not going to happen.

I love this movie so much, and I'm sad that fandom never latched onto this pairing. I didn't find an_sceal's request until a few days before the deadline, but I wanted to try to write something for her anyway. She was interested in something dealing with the issues that remained between them, and touched on how Travis's dad had clearly hit him more than once in the past. So I tried to write some snippets that focused on the progression of their relationship, of Travis trying to figure out where the line was with Beck and how to channel his anger, and Beck slowly figuring out what was going on.

And then I threw in some recipes, because why the hell not? :D

And then, finally, the one I posted four minutes before the archive closed:

Don't Piss Me Off. Teen Wolf RPF, JR Bourne/Tyler Hoechlin, Explicit, Watersports. JR and Tyler after a con, getting silly and sexy with each other.

Yeah, so I've totally developed a thing for JR/Hoechlin. So much sexy, nnnngh. [Bad username: black_piano_keys] asked for some kinky combination of JR, Hoechlin, and Dylan, and, well, I don't really need that much encouragement if I know somebody's willing to read.

And there you have it. Five stories, my most productive Yuletide yet. (For my least productive year since I started writing.) Yay!

Fic recs, mostly Yuletide

Just a few recs for y'all. There are so many stories I haven't gotten to yet - I haven't even touched any of the Sleepy Hollow, Push, Losers, Coldfire, or Fast & Furious stories, and I absolutely have to read the 15k Anck Su Namun/Imhotep fic. Oh, and the Star Trek: Rhihannsu story that isn't showing up on the fandoms list. Ack! But here are a few of the ones I've enjoyed:

Mine:

I asked for three different fandoms this year, and dude, I got a story for each one. I don't even know how I got that lucky.

Transcendental Blues. Longmire, Walt/Vic. Henry and Vic commiserate.

This is a great moment between Vic and Henry at the Red Pony, Henry getting Vic to unburden herself after Walt's been...well, Walt. Great voices.

They Teach You These Things At Seminars. Intelligence, Riley/Gabriel. "Look," said Riley, "before we do this, I just want to say, well, let's not let things get weird, okay?"

Ahaha! Undercover married trope in quick snapshots! I love the presence of the rest of the team in the background, too.

Team Effort Eureka, Jack/Nathan/Allison Time to save the world again.

Because of course this is how these three get together in the end. <3

Others:

All the Joy and Pain Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Ferris/Sloane/Cameron. The soundtrack of three lives. Or should I say, mixtape?

Ten perfect drabbles that tell an entire movie's worth of story.

When You're Going Through Hell, Just Keep Going. Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying. This is why we can't have nice things.

This one made me flail with glee. It's just a little thing, a perfect 666 words, that manages to capture perfectly the setting of the Dungeons & Dragons world, as well as the feel of a moment in a campaign. <3

The Sensible Approach. Sense and Sensibility, Elinor Dashwood/Edward Ferrars, Colonel Brandon/Marianne Dashwood. One cannot live on love alone. Elinor takes steps to make their home life a touch more comfortable.

It's been a while since I've read Austen, but I was quickly pulled back into the feel of her worlds, where the manners and social maneuvering surrounding a child's Christening is high drama. I was very impressed with this one.

You've Got the Moves, Baby (I've Got the Motion). Live Free or Die Hard, Thomas Gabriel/Mai Linh. Pre-movie, first meetings.

I'm not one who generally roots for villains, or who thinks they're secretly misunderstood in some way, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy them. (Hans Gruber, yes?) The fact that Timothy Olyphant and Maggie Q are absolutely gorgeous doesn't hurt. This story is pre-series, moments as they get to know each other, and I could definitely read more about these two in some other universe where they aren't fucking up John McClane's world.

The Magician Acts. X-Men First Class RPF, Michael Fassbender/James McAvoy. BEWARE THE WARNINGS - DUBCON/NONCON. Magicians are almost never actors. To James, it seems unfair that Michael should be able to do both.

This is actually a conditional rec for me, because it's not the story I'd choose to read for these two characters. James is depressed throughout this; Michael's morality is highly questionable; and they never connect in the way I enjoy in real life interviews. BUT. As a story between two original characters, it's really interesting. It's set in a modern-day world where magic exists and is part of daily life, used, for example, to create special effects for the X-Men movies. James desperately wants magic. Michael has it, and makes an offer. This one is great for those of you who enjoy moral ambiguity, even in sexual situations, but do avoid it if that kind of thing triggers you or is a squick.

I Am Groot (Groot's Story). Guardian's of the Galaxy. Groot's perspective on Guardians of the Galaxy.

This one has been recced everywhere, but I want to mention it again just in case you're like me and missed the hover-text while you were clicking through with bleary eyes. Short and full of heart, with some of the most beautiful language I've read in a while.

And I need to tack a sga_santa rec on here. I am sooo behind on reading the stories, but this one needs a special mention:

Erytheia. Stargate Atlantis, Jeannie Miller, Gen. Jeannie goes on her first mission.

On the surface, this is the kind of story fandom would never be interested in - it's Gen, featuring Jeannie with very few appearances by any of the main Stargate characters, and wow, it made me cry. (OC death.)

If you can handle the part where it's got a lot of pain in the middle, read this. Since it's Jeannie's first mission, we get to see all the neat scifi-y stuff through her eyes, with great description on the author's part, as well as the fun team-y bits that Stargate fans love. And Jeannie's strength throughout is wonderful, even when she thinks she's broken. I haven't been this wowed by a Stargate story in a very long time.

Dear Yuletide Writer, part 2

Hi! Again, thank you so much for writing for me! I can't wait to read my story.

Like previous years, I am off to visit my parents for a few days. Unlike previous years, they've apparently upgraded to faster than dial-up internet. HOWEVER. I have no idea if I'll actually be able to get to my story as soon as it's revealed. If things go kaplooey, it could be 2-3 days before I'm able to read it.

(Let's hope I'm being paranoid. I might go nuts, otherwise. 0_0 )
Eddie flag

Me stuff

My fandom stocking is here. I pretty much asked for rare pairings, because I'm a doofus, but if for some reason you'd like to give me something, feel free to go with anything I've mentioned liking in the past. I didn't even list Criminal Minds, because I figured I was already asking for too much, but it's still on the loved list.

Yuletide story is done. SGA Santa story is done. All my art deadlines I ran into (good surprise, wow!) at the beginning of December have been fulfilled. Most of my Christmas shopping is done.

Except...I have reached the point in the year where I am all "damn you, RL, for interfering in my need to fandom!" I need to finish up a gift for my brother and something for my father, as well as just generally get ready for the trip to my parents'. (Oh, and you know, feed myself, be a little active so my body doesn't rebel, take care of the cats, and just that general life stuff that seems beyond me most of the time.)

But I wanna write treats! I want to pump out all the words I haven't managed to do so far this year! I'm actually making progress on one story, but there are so many others to tackle!

ARGH! DO ALL THE THINGS!

*pantpantpant*

(Don't mind me. Life is good! I'm just...squirrel brained. *g*)

Next year

Have realized I need to start keeping a list of fandoms that I want to nominate for next year's Yuletide.

Okay, apparently next Christmas is going to be all about the RPF. Huh.
